Budgie’s Journal #78 – WIP Wednesday 8 – The Return to Editing
I didn’t realize what day it was until I got to work this morning. Vacation will do that to you I guess. But it’s Wednesday, and that means an update on my current WIP (work in progress).
Yesterday, I popped back into my vampiric action/comedy “Blood Drive” to start the final edits, re-reading the first five chapters, fixing grammar and re-wording. I finished Stephen King’s book “On Writing” while away, and I have a renewed perspective on editing.
The second draft of the book is around 59,000 words, and it was only meant to be around 30,000-35,000, so it’s a bigger story than what I anticipated. Which means more editing is needed than I expected too. But it’s all worth it. This story really pops.
This is a fun story. I loved the characters and putting together their cross-country adventure. I hope to send them back on the road someday. There’s just so much you can do with two vampires, a priest, and a werewolf (other than having them walk into a bar). But that may depend on whether or not others think they’re as fun reading them as I did writing them. I’m sure if I’m given good feedback I’ll go back to them for another ride (wink wink).
I also have major updates and insights on next year’s satire/action epic “I’m in Sci-fi Hell”, but I’m still saving that for a separate post.
Expect Blood Drive to drop mid-October, and expect a cover reveal soon. Things are happening. Keep your eyes open, especially when the autumn moon is in the night sky.
